Guillaume Scamps, Kouichi Hagino

TL;DR
This paper compares semi-classical and quantum methods for calculating the fission lifetime of 258Fm, showing they agree within 25%, using a complex absorbing potential and Skyrme HF+BCS theory.
Contribution
It demonstrates the effectiveness of quantum calculations with complex absorbing potentials in modeling nuclear fission lifetimes.
Findings
Quantum and semi-classical calculations agree within 25%.
The potential barrier is derived from constrained Skyrme HF+BCS theory.
The method provides a reliable approach for fission lifetime estimation.
Abstract
A comparison between the semi-classical approximation and the full quantum calculation with a complex absorbing potential is made with a model of the fission of 258Fm. The potential barrier is obtained with the constrained Skyrme HF+BCS theory. The life-time obtained by the two calculations agree with each other the difference being only by 25%.
