Note on the standard model as an effective theory
Amir H. Fariborz, Renata Jora

TL;DR
This paper proposes a consistency criterion for the standard model based on an analogy with statistical systems, and explores the implications of higher dimension operators within this framework.
Contribution
It introduces a novel consistency criterion for the standard model inspired by statistical physics analogies and investigates potential effects of higher dimension operators.
Findings
New class of higher dimension operators identified
Consistency criterion derived from statistical analogy
Implications for standard model extensions explored
Abstract
We present a criterion of consistency derived from the analogy between the partition function of a quantum field theory and that of a statistical system. Based on this we examine a new class of higher dimension operators that might act in the standard model.
