Farhang Haddadfarshi, Florian Mintert

TL;DR
This paper presents a method for implementing high-fidelity entangling quantum gates in trapped ions by using shaped control pulses to reduce unwanted ion-phonon entanglement, enhancing gate performance.
Contribution
It introduces an optimized control pulse scheme that minimizes ion-phonon entanglement while preserving the mediated interaction for improved quantum gate fidelity.
Findings
Significantly reduces ion-phonon entanglement during gate operation
Maintains effective mediated interaction for entangling gates
Enhances fidelity of quantum gates in trapped ion systems
Abstract
We describe the optimal realization of entangling quantum gates for trapped ions mediated by a dissipative bus mode. With suitably shaped control pulses one can substantially decrease ion-phonon entanglement while maintaining the mediated interaction.
