Marian G. Arada, Merly F. Tataro, Jaderick P. Pabico

TL;DR
This study uses microsimulation models to evaluate traffic infrastructure improvements at a busy three-road fork, identifying the widening of one fork from two to three lanes as the most effective solution for reducing delays and increasing speeds.
Contribution
Developed multi-agent microsimulation models to assess proposed infrastructure changes and identified the most effective improvement for traffic flow at a complex junction.
Findings
Widening one fork from two to three lanes significantly improves traffic metrics.
Travel delay increases linearly with vehicle volume, while mean speed decreases.
Simulation results support infrastructure development decisions for traffic management.
Abstract
Using microsimulations of vehicular dynamics, we studied the effects of several proposed infrastructure developments to the mean travel delay time~ and mean speed~ of vehicles passing a busy three-road fork, particularly in the non-signalized roundabout junction of Lower Bicutan, Taguig City, Metro Manila. We designed and implemented multi-agent-based microsimulation models to mimic the autonomous driving behavior of heterogeneous individuals and measured the effect of various proposed infrastructure developments on~ and~. Our aim is to find out the best infrastructure development from among three choices being considered by the local government for the purpose of solving the traffic problems in the area. We created simulation models of the current vehicular traffic situation in the area using the mean travel times~ of statistically sampled vehicles…
