TL;DR
This paper reports a precise measurement of the Z boson production cross-section in proton-proton collisions at 7 TeV, confirming theoretical predictions and providing insights into electroweak processes at the LHC.
Contribution
First measurement of Z boson production cross-section in the specified kinematic range at 7 TeV by LHCb, including differential measurements and cross-section ratios.
Findings
Measured Z to mu+ mu- cross-section: 76.0 pb with uncertainties.
Results agree with next-to-next-to-leading order QCD predictions.
Provided ratio of W to Z production cross-sections for Standard Model tests.
Abstract
A measurement of the production cross-section for bosons that decay to muons is presented. The data were recorded by the LHCb detector during collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb. The cross-section is measured for muons in the pseudorapidity range with transverse momenta GeV/c. The dimuon mass is restricted to GeV/c. The measured cross-section is where the uncertainties are due to the sample size, systematic effects, the beam energy and the luminosity. This result is in good agreement with theoretical predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. The cross-section is also measured differentially as a function…
