Boris A. Malomed

TL;DR
This paper discusses spontaneous symmetry breaking in laser cavities, focusing on a recent observation in dual-core nanolaser cavities and illustrating the phenomenon with a semi-analytical model.
Contribution
It provides an introduction to SSB in nonlinear systems with double-well potentials and analyzes a recent experimental observation in nanolaser cavities.
Findings
Observation of SSB in dual-core nanolaser cavity
Illustration of SSB using a semi-analytical model
Discussion of SSB in conservative and dissipative systems
Abstract
A brief introduction to the topic of spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) in conservative and dissipative nonlinear systems with an underlying double-well-potential structure is given. The reason is a discussion of a recent observation of the SSB a dual-core nanolaser cavity [5]. The effect is illustrated by means of a simple semi-analytically-tractable model (Fig. 1).
