Tianyu Song, Pooi-Yuen Kam

TL;DR
This paper introduces a Viterbi-type trellis-search algorithm and a selective-store strategy to enhance the efficiency and reliability of photon-counting detection in free-space optical systems.
Contribution
It presents a novel, more efficient detection algorithm and a strategy to mitigate error floors in FSO photon-counting systems.
Findings
Improved detection efficiency in FSO systems
Reduced error floor with the selective-store strategy
Enhanced robustness of photon-counting receivers
Abstract
We propose a Viterbi-type trellis-search algorithm to implement the FSO photon-counting sequence receiver proposed in [1] more efficiently and a selective-store strategy to overcome the error floor problem observed therein.
