Production of $\eta$ and $\eta '$ Mesons on Nucleons and Nuclei
B. Krusche, C. Wilkin

TL;DR
This review discusses the production mechanisms, experimental data, and nuclear interactions of eta and eta prime mesons in photon- and hadron-induced reactions, highlighting their implications for understanding nucleon resonances and meson-nucleus interactions.
Contribution
It provides a comprehensive review of experimental data on eta and eta prime meson production, analyzing their interactions with nuclei and implications for nucleon resonance searches.
Findings
Strong influence of $S_{11}(1535)$ in eta production
Evidence of eta meson binding in nuclei
Differential behavior of eta and eta prime production near threshold
Abstract
The production of and mesons in photon- and hadron-induced reactions on free and quasi-free nucleons and on nuclei is reviewed. The extensive database on , for both proton and neutron targets, is described in detail and its implications for the search for resonances much heavier than the dominant discussed. Though less is currently known about the production of the or of pairs, these also offer tantalizing prospects in the search for the missing isobars. The more limited data available on pion-induced production are still necessary ingredients in the partial wave analysis discussed. The production of the -meson in and collisions shows once again the strong influence of the isobar, which is in contrast to the relatively weak behaviour seen near threshold for…
