The upgrade of the LHCb trigger system
Johannes Albrecht, Conor Fitzpatrick, Vladimir Gligorov, Gerhard Raven

TL;DR
The paper discusses the upgrade of the LHCb trigger system to handle higher luminosity by implementing a triggerless readout and a full software trigger, replacing the hardware Level-0 trigger.
Contribution
It introduces a novel trigger system upgrade for LHCb, enabling efficient data processing at higher luminosities without hardware triggers.
Findings
Successful implementation of triggerless readout
Enhanced signal efficiency for hadronic final states
Preparation for higher luminosity operation
Abstract
The LHCb experiment will operate at a luminosity of cms during LHC Run 3. At this rate the present readout and hardware Level-0 trigger become a limitation, especially for fully hadronic final states. In order to maintain a high signal efficiency the upgraded LHCb detector will deploy two novel concepts: a triggerless readout and a full software trigger.
