TL;DR
This paper investigates how a two-level quantum system can be excited by a superoscillating electric field with spectral components below its absorption line, revealing abrupt Rabi oscillations.
Contribution
It demonstrates that superoscillating fields can induce Rabi oscillations in a TLS even when spectral components are below the absorption threshold, a novel insight.
Findings
TLS can be excited by sub-threshold spectral components
Superoscillating fields cause abrupt Rabi oscillations
New mechanism for quantum excitation in superoscillating fields
Abstract
We study counterintuitive dynamics of a two-level system (TLS) interacting with electric field superoscillating in time. We show that a TLS may be excited by an external light pulse whose spectral components are below the absorption line of the TLS. We attribute this unique dynamics to the Rabi oscillations of the TLS in a superoscillating driving field.
