A spotlike edge state in plane Poiseuille flow
Stefan Zammert, Bruno Eckhardt

TL;DR
This paper investigates the localized chaotic edge states in plane Poiseuille flow at specific Reynolds numbers using edge tracking, revealing complex boundary dynamics in large domains.
Contribution
It introduces the observation of localized, chaotic edge states in plane Poiseuille flow, expanding understanding of laminar-turbulent boundary behavior.
Findings
Edge states are localized in spanwise and streamwise directions.
The boundary state is chaotic at the studied Reynolds numbers.
Large domains reveal complex localized boundary dynamics.
Abstract
We study the laminar turbulent boundary in plane Poiseuille flow at and using the technique of edge tracking. For large computational domains the attracting state in the laminar-turbulent boundary is localized in spanwise and streamwise direction and chaotic.
