A closer look at the possible CMS signal of a new gauge boson
J. A. Aguilar-Saavedra, F. R. Joaquim

TL;DR
This paper examines the CMS 2.8σ excess in $eejj$ events around 2 TeV, exploring whether it indicates new gauge bosons $W'$ or $Z'$ and proposing additional signals for validation.
Contribution
It provides a detailed analysis of potential new gauge boson signals explaining the CMS excess and suggests further experimental signatures to confirm or refute these hypotheses.
Findings
Potential $W'$ and $Z'$ signals consistent with CMS excess
Additional experimental signatures proposed for validation
Framework for distinguishing new gauge boson origins
Abstract
The CMS collaboration has recently reported a 2.8 excess of events with an invariant mass around 2 TeV. This observation can be explained in the context of standard model extensions with new gauge bosons , and heavy neutrinos coupling (mainly) to the electron. We discuss additional signals that allow to confirm or discard the and hypotheses.
