Uniqueness of photon spheres in static vacuum asymptotically flat spacetimes
Carla Cederbaum

TL;DR
This paper proves that the Schwarzschild spacetime is uniquely characterized among static vacuum asymptotically flat spacetimes by the presence of a photon sphere, extending black hole uniqueness results.
Contribution
It establishes a uniqueness theorem for photon spheres in static vacuum asymptotically flat spacetimes, adapting Israel's black hole proof techniques.
Findings
Schwarzschild spacetime is the only such spacetime with a photon sphere.
Photon spheres uniquely identify Schwarzschild spacetime among static vacuum solutions.
The proof adapts methods from black hole uniqueness theorems.
Abstract
Adapting Israel's proof of static black hole uniqueness, we show that the Schwarzschild spacetime is the only static vacuum asymptotically flat spacetime that possesses a suitably defined photon sphere.
