Quantum origin of suppression for vacuum fluctuations of energy
Ja.V. Balitsky, V.V. Kiselev

TL;DR
This paper demonstrates that vacuum fluctuations' energy density can be exponentially suppressed by the presence of quanta in a finite volume, with potential implications for cosmology.
Contribution
It introduces a model showing exponential suppression of zero-point energy density due to quantum effects in a finite volume.
Findings
Zero-point energy density is exponentially suppressed by field quanta.
The mechanism has significant cosmological implications.
Abstract
By example of a model with a spatially global scalar field, we show that the energy density of zero-point modes is exponentially suppressed by an average number of field quanta in a finite volume with respect to the energy density in the stationary state of minimal energy. We describe cosmological implications of mechanism.
