The simplest example of the use of the method of images
Antonio S. de Castro

TL;DR
This paper demonstrates that a system with two parallel planes, one conducting and one insulating with charges, serves as the simplest example for applying the method of images, clarifying its use beyond common literature examples.
Contribution
It provides a clear and simple example of the method of images involving a conducting and an insulating plane, contrasting with more complex cases in existing literature.
Findings
Illustrates the method of images with a simple parallel plane system
Clarifies misconceptions about the simplest applications of the method
Provides a foundational example for educational purposes
Abstract
It is shown that the system consisting of two infinite and parallel planes, one of them a conductor, and the other an insulator with a uniform distribution of charges, is the simplest example of the use of the method of images, in contrast to what is diffused in the literature.
