TL;DR
This study uses high-resolution ALMA and radio observations to analyze the radio properties and far-infrared/radio correlation of submillimetre galaxies, providing new insights into their evolution and starburst models.
Contribution
First observational evidence supporting starburst model predictions of co-dependent evolution of $q_{IR}$ and $eta$ in SMGs.
Findings
Median radio spectral index $eta = -0.79$
Median $q_{IR} = 2.56$, higher than previous samples
Evidence of co-dependent evolution of $q_{IR}$ and $eta$ with stellar mass
Abstract
We present a study of the radio properties of 870m-selected submillimetre galaxies (SMGs), observed at high resolution with ALMA in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South. From our initial sample of 76 ALMA SMGs, we detect 52 SMGs at significance in VLA 1400MHz imaging, of which 35 are also detected at in new 610MHz GMRT imaging. Within this sample of radio-detected SMGs, we measure a median radio spectral index , (with inter-quartile range ) and investigate the far-infrared/radio correlation via the parameter , the logarithmic ratio of the rest-frame 8-1000m flux and monochromatic radio flux. Our median (inter-quartile range ) is higher than that typically seen in single-dish 870m-selected sources (), which…
