Comment on: Comment on "Mysterious abrupt carbon-14 increase in coral contributed by a comet" Yi Liu et al
Adrian L. Melott (University of Kansas)

TL;DR
This paper critiques Liu et al.'s claim about a comet causing a 14C increase in 774 AD, highlighting errors in their assumptions about atmospheric 14C levels and comet contributions.
Contribution
It provides a critical analysis identifying key errors in Liu et al.'s hypothesis regarding the source of the 14C increase.
Findings
Liu et al.'s estimates of atmospheric 14C are flawed
The proposed comet contribution is insufficient to explain the 774 AD increase
The paper clarifies the necessary conditions for 14C perturbations in historical events
Abstract
Unfortunately, Liu et al. contains a number of errors and omissions which compromise its conclusions. These have to do with the amount of 14C which is necessary to deposit in the atmosphere in order to see a perturbation like that in 774 AD, and the ability of a comet to do so.
