Hierarchical pixel clustering for image segmentation
M. Kharinov

TL;DR
This paper introduces a hierarchical pixel clustering method for image segmentation, focusing on approximating images with piecewise constant segments and transitioning from pixel clusters to meaningful image segments.
Contribution
It presents a novel hierarchical approach to image segmentation that simplifies the process of reducing pixel clusters to meaningful segments using elementary algorithms.
Findings
Hierarchical clustering effectively approximates images with piecewise constant segments.
Algorithms are validated through elementary formulas.
The method facilitates transition from pixel clusters to image segments.
Abstract
In the paper a piecewise constant image approximations of sequential number of pixel clusters or segments are treated. A majorizing of optimal approximation sequence by hierarchical sequence of image approximations is studied. Transition from pixel clustering to image segmentation by reducing of segment numbers in clusters is provided. Algorithms are proved by elementary formulas.
