Mariola Klusek-Gawenda, Antoni Szczurek

TL;DR
This paper introduces the first calculation of differential distributions for double $ ho^0$ meson production via a double scattering mechanism in ultraperipheral ultrarelativistic collisions, highlighting its dominance over the two-photon mechanism at certain invariant masses.
Contribution
The study provides the first impact parameter space calculation of double $ ho^0$ production, including mass smearing and comparison with existing two-photon mechanism models.
Findings
Double scattering mechanism dominates at $M_{ ho ho} <$ 2 GeV.
Double scattering contributes significantly to four-pion production.
Predicted cross section is 20% of STAR measurements.
Abstract
We calculate, for the first time, differential distributions for double meson production in exclusive ultraperipheral, ultrarelativistic collisions via a double scattering mechanism. The calculations are done in impact parameter space. The cross section for is parametrized based on an existing calculation. Smearing of masses is taken into account. The results of our calculations are compared at the RHIC energy to the contribution of the two-photon mechanism discussed previously in the literature. The cross section for the double scattering mechanism is found to be an order of magnitude larger at 2 GeV and more than two orders of magnitude at 3 GeV, than that for the photon-photon mechanism. Compared to the two-photon mechanism the double scattering mechanism populates somewhat larger invariant…
