On conjugacy classes in the Lie group E_8
G. Lusztig

TL;DR
This paper discusses the parametrization of conjugacy classes in the Lie group E_8 using conjugacy classes in its Weyl group, providing insights into the structure of E_8.
Contribution
It proposes a framework linking conjugacy classes in E_8 to those in its Weyl group, advancing understanding of E_8's structure.
Findings
Conjugacy classes in E_8 can be roughly parametrized by Weyl group classes.
The approach offers a new perspective on the structure of E_8.
Potential applications in representation theory and algebraic geometry.
Abstract
This is based on a talk given at the AMS/RMS joint meeting in June 2013, Alba Iulia. The main theme is that the conjugacy classes in the Lie group E_8 should be (roughly) parametrized by conjugacy classes in the corresponding Weyl group.
