I. Inverse Compton origin of pulsar \gamma-ray emission. II. Reconnection model of Crab flares
Maxim Lyutikov (Purdue University)

TL;DR
This paper discusses the inverse Compton process as the source of pulsar gamma-ray emission and proposes magnetic reconnection as the mechanism behind Crab flares and high-energy emission in the Crab Nebula.
Contribution
It presents evidence supporting inverse Compton as the origin of pulsar gamma rays and introduces a reconnection-based model for Crab flares, challenging shock acceleration theories.
Findings
Inverse Compton mechanism likely explains pulsar gamma-ray emission.
Reconnection events accelerate particles responsible for Crab flares.
Reconnection model accounts for high-energy emission in Crab Nebula.
Abstract
I. There is growing evidence that pulsars' high energy emission is generated via Inverse Compton mechanism. II. The particles producing Crab flares, and possibly most of the Crab Nebula's high energy emission, are accelerated via reconnection events, and not at shock via Fermi mechanisms.
