Wei Wang, Pingwen Zhang, Zhifei Zhang

TL;DR
This paper rigorously derives the Ericksen-Leslie liquid crystal theory from the Beris-Edwards system using the Hilbert expansion method, establishing a mathematical connection between these models.
Contribution
It provides a rigorous mathematical derivation of Ericksen-Leslie theory from the Beris-Edwards system, including general stress terms.
Findings
Successful derivation of Ericksen-Leslie system from Beris-Edwards model
Inclusion of general Ericksen and Leslie stresses in the derivation
Application of Hilbert expansion method to liquid crystal models
Abstract
Starting from Beris-Edwards system for the liquid crystal, we present a rigorous derivation of Ericksen-Leslie system with general Ericksen stress and Leslie stress by using the Hilbert expansion method.
