Invariants of Links in Thickened Surfaces
J. Scott Carter, Daniel S. Silver, Susan G. Williams (University of, South Alabama)

TL;DR
This paper introduces a new group invariant for links in thickened surfaces, along with polynomial invariants, which can detect nontrivial virtual links and determine their virtual genus.
Contribution
It defines novel invariants that extend classical link invariants to links in thickened surfaces, enhancing the understanding of virtual links.
Findings
The group invariant detects nontrivial virtual links.
Polynomial invariants are associated with the group.
The invariants determine the virtual genus of links.
Abstract
A group invariant for links in thickened closed orientable surfaces is studied. Associated polynomial invariants are defined. The group detects nontriviality of a virtual link and determines its virtual genus.
