Feasibility of giant fiber-optic gyroscopes
Stephan Schiller

TL;DR
This paper explores the potential of large-area interferometric fiber-optic gyroscopes enabled by underground fiber links, discussing their sensitivity, disturbances, and possible solutions.
Contribution
It evaluates the feasibility and challenges of implementing giant fiber-optic gyroscopes using long-distance underground fiber links.
Findings
Potential for very large-area gyroscopes identified
Disturbances affecting sensitivity analyzed
Approaches to mitigate disturbances discussed
Abstract
The availability of long-distance, underground fiber-optic links opens a perspective of implementing interferometric fiber-optic gyroscopes embracing very large areas. We discuss the potential sensitivity, some disturbances and approaches to overcome them.
