Yidong Sun

TL;DR
This paper presents a straightforward proof of a mathematical identity related to derangement polynomials, which was conjectured by Lacasse and has implications in PAC-Bayesian machine learning theory.
Contribution
It introduces a new, simplified proof method using umbral calculus and derangement polynomials for Lacasse's conjectured identity.
Findings
Provides a simpler proof of Lacasse's identity
Utilizes umbral representation of derangement polynomials
Enhances understanding of mathematical foundations in PAC-Bayesian theory
Abstract
In this note, using the derangement polynomials and their umbral representation, we give another simple proof of an identity conjectured by Lacasse in the study of the PAC-Bayesian machine learning theory.
