J. Stahov, H. Clement, G. J. Wagner

TL;DR
This paper reanalyzes low-energy pion-proton scattering data to estimate the pion-nucleon sigma term, finding a value consistent with lattice QCD but lower than previous experimental analyses.
Contribution
It provides a new determination of the pion-nucleon sigma term using CHAOS data, offering an updated estimate that aligns with theoretical calculations.
Findings
Sigma term value: 44 ± 12 MeV
Agreement with lattice QCD
Lower than previous experimental estimates
Abstract
We have reanalyzed the scattering data at low energy in the Coulomb-nuclear interference region as measured by the CHAOS group at TRIUMF with the aim to determine the pion-nucleon term. The resulting value MeV, while in agreement with lattice QCD calculations and compatible with other recent analyses, is significantly lower than that from the GWU-TRIUMF analysis of 2002.
