Measurements of the Top-quark Mass and the ttbar Cross Section in the Hadronic tau + Jets Decay Channel at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV
CDF Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper reports the first direct measurement of the top-quark mass and the $tar{t}$ cross section in the hadronic tau + jets decay channel using data from the Fermilab Tevatron, employing likelihood methods based on matrix elements.
Contribution
It introduces a novel measurement of the top-quark mass specifically in the hadronic tau + jets decay channel, expanding the methods used in top-quark physics.
Findings
Top-quark mass measured as 172.7 GeV/c^2
$tar{t}$ cross section measured as 8.8 pb
Results are consistent with previous measurements
Abstract
We present the first direct measurement of the top-quark mass using events decaying in the hadronic + jets decay channel. Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.2 fb collected by the CDF II detector in collisions at at the Fermilab Tevatron, we measure the cross section, , and the top-quark mass, M. We extract M from a likelihood based on per-event probabilities calculated with leading-order signal and background matrix elements. We measure and M.
