Measurement of the proton-air cross-section at $\sqrt{s}=57$ TeV with the Pierre Auger Observatory
Pierre Auger Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper reports a measurement of the proton-air cross-section at 57 TeV using cosmic ray data from the Pierre Auger Observatory, providing insights into high-energy particle interactions.
Contribution
First measurement of the proton-air cross-section at 57 TeV center-of-mass energy using extensive air shower data.
Findings
Proton-air cross-section measured as 505 mb with uncertainties.
Systematic uncertainties thoroughly analyzed.
Results consistent with extrapolations from lower energies.
Abstract
We report a measurement of the proton-air cross-section for particle production at the center-of-mass energy per nucleon of 57 TeV. This is derived from the distribution of the depths of shower maxima observed with the Pierre Auger Observatory: systematic uncertainties are studied in detail. Analysing the tail of the distribution of the shower maxima, a proton-air cross-section of mb is found.
