J. R. Willis, N. V. Movchan, A. B. Movchan

TL;DR
This paper develops a theoretical model for three-dimensional corrugation crack front waves, extending previous in-plane analyses to more complex surface perturbations and deriving governing equations.
Contribution
It generalizes existing crack front wave models to three-dimensional perturbations and provides new equations describing corrugation crack front dynamics.
Findings
Derived equations for 3D crack front waves.
Extended understanding of crack surface perturbations.
Provided analytical framework for future studies.
Abstract
The paper presents a model of a dynamic crack with a wavy surface. So far, theoretical analysis of crack front waves has been performed only for in-plane perturbations of the crack front. In the present paper, generalisation is given to a more general three-dimensional perturbation, and equations that govern corrugation crack front waves are derived and analysed.
