TL;DR
This paper reports a search for microwave signals from ultrahigh energy cosmic ray air showers, finding no events and constraining possible emission models based on laboratory data.
Contribution
It provides the first experimental constraints on microwave emission from cosmic ray air showers, challenging previous laboratory-based emission claims.
Findings
No microwave emission events detected
Limits placed on emission power flux and coherence
Results challenge recent laboratory emission measurements
Abstract
We present a search for microwave emission from air showers induced by ultrahigh energy cosmic rays with the microwave detection of air showers experiment. No events were found, ruling out a wide range of power flux and coherence of the putative emission, including those suggested by recent laboratory measurements.
