Evolution of Magnetic Glass on Partial Crystallization of a Bulk Metallic Glass: Tb36Sm20Al24Co20
Archana Lakhani, A. Banerjee, P. Chaddah, J. Q. Wang, W. H. Wang

TL;DR
This study investigates how partial crystallization through annealing induces magnetic glass behavior in Tb36Sm20Al24Co20 bulk metallic glass, highlighting the role of microstructural changes on magnetic properties.
Contribution
It demonstrates that annealing-induced partial crystallization transforms the magnetic behavior of Tb36Sm20Al24Co20 BMG into a magnetic glass, confirmed by CHUF protocol.
Findings
As cast sample shows non-ergodic magnetization without magnetic glass behavior.
Annealed, partially crystallized BMG exhibits magnetic glass behavior.
Magnetic glass behavior confirmed by CHUF measurement protocol.
Abstract
A comparative study on as cast and annealed rare earth bulk metallic glass (BMG) with composition Tb36Sm20Al24Co20 has been carried out by magnetization measurements. The as cast amorphous sample shows non-ergodic magnetization but does not show the behavior expected from magnetic glass. After annealing, the partially crystallized BMG shows this magnetic glass behavior. This is confirmed by the established measurement protocol of cooling and heating in unequal fields (CHUF).
