Fritz Haber: The Damned Scientist
Magda Dunikowska, Ludwik Turko

TL;DR
This paper explores the complex legacy of Fritz Haber, highlighting his scientific achievements in ammonia synthesis and his controversial role in chemical warfare during WWI, reflecting on his enduring historical impact.
Contribution
It provides a nuanced analysis of Fritz Haber's dual legacy as a pioneering chemist and a controversial figure involved in chemical warfare.
Findings
Haber developed the Haber process for ammonia synthesis.
He played a key role in chemical warfare during WWI.
His legacy remains controversial and complex.
Abstract
In the gallery of famous people tracing their origins to Wroc{\l}aw, few are as controversial, as complex, or as tragic as Fritz Haber, ever more distant in the flux of time, yet still stirring emotions. He developed a method for the direct synthesis of ammonia from its elements and later pioneered chemical warfare on the battlefields of the First World War.
