Evidence for the charmless annihilation decay mode $B^0_s \to \pi^+\pi^-$
CDF Collaboration

TL;DR
This paper reports the first evidence for the rare decay mode $B^0_s o \pi^+\pi^-$, measured using data from the Fermilab Tevatron, with significant implications for understanding charmless annihilation processes in B mesons.
Contribution
It provides the first experimental evidence for the $B^0_s o \pi^+\pi^-$ decay and measures its branching ratio, advancing knowledge of charmless annihilation decays.
Findings
Evidence for $B^0_s o \pi^+\pi^-$ with 3.7σ significance
Measured branching ratio of $(0.57 \pm 0.15 ext{(stat)} \pm 0.10 ext{(syst)}) imes 10^{-6}$
Search for $B^0 o K^+K^-$ with 2.0σ significance
Abstract
We search for annihilation decay modes of neutral mesons into pairs of charmless charged hadrons with the upgraded Collider Detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Using a data sample corresponding to 6 fb of integrated luminosity, we obtain the first evidence for the decay, with a significance of , and a measured branching ratio . A search for the mode in the same sample yields a significance of , and a central value estimate .
