Deformations of crystal frameworks
Ciprian S. Borcea, Ileana Streinu

TL;DR
This paper explores how periodic bar-and-joint frameworks, modeled on crystal structures like quartz, cristobalite, and tridymite, deform, providing detailed insights into their deformation spaces.
Contribution
It introduces a deformation theory applied specifically to tetrahedral crystal frameworks, analyzing their deformation spaces in detail.
Findings
Deformation spaces characterized for quartz, cristobalite, tridymite frameworks
Identification of possible deformation modes in these crystal structures
Enhanced understanding of structural flexibility in tetrahedral frameworks
Abstract
We apply our deformation theory of periodic bar-and-joint frameworks to tetrahedral crystal structures. The deformation space is investigated in detail for frameworks modelled on quartz, cristobalite and tridymite.
