TL;DR
This paper investigates how a separator failure in 2002 affected beam dynamics in the Tevatron, demonstrating that a simple diffusion model can explain the observed changes in emittance growth and beam lifetime.
Contribution
The study introduces a diffusion model to explain the impact of a separator failure on beam parameters in the Tevatron.
Findings
Diffusion model successfully explains emittance growth changes.
Separator failure caused measurable effects on beam lifetime.
Model aligns with observed luminosity drops.
Abstract
A separator failure during a store in 2002 led to a drop in luminosity, to increased emittance growth and to a drop in beam lifetimes. We show that a simple diffusion model can be used to explain the changes in emittance growth and beam lifetimes.
