An exact solution for the Casimir force in a spherically symmetric medium
Ulf Leonhardt, William M. R. Simpson

TL;DR
This paper derives an exact analytic solution for the Casimir force in a spherically symmetric Maxwell's fish eye medium with a mirror, challenging previous assumptions about the force's nature.
Contribution
It provides the first exact solution for the Casimir force in this specific spherical medium, clarifying its attractive nature.
Findings
The Casimir force is attractive in the Maxwell's fish eye medium.
The force diverges at the mirror surface.
Contradicts prior beliefs of a repulsive Casimir force in such setups.
Abstract
We calculated the force of the quantum vacuum, the Casimir force, in a spherically symmetric medium, Maxwell's fish eye, surrounded by a perfect mirror and derived an exact analytic solution. Our solution questions the idea that the Casimir force of a spherical mirror is repulsive - we found an attractive force that diverges at the mirror.
