Interaction between light and matter: A photon wave function approach
Pablo L. Saldanha, C. H. Monken

TL;DR
This paper extends the photon wave function formalism to include interactions with media, providing a new quantum description of light-matter interactions and applying it to photon pairs from parametric down conversion.
Contribution
It introduces a formalism that incorporates photon-media interactions into the photon wave function approach, offering a more intuitive quantum description.
Findings
Quantum state of twin photons matches previous results
New formalism provides intuitive interpretation of light-matter interactions
Extended formalism can be applied to various quantum optics scenarios
Abstract
The Bialynicki-Birula-Sipe photon wave function formalism is extended to include the interaction between photons and continuous non-absorptive media. When the second quantization of this formalism is introduced, a new way of describing the quantum interactions between light and matter emerges. As an example of application, the quantum state of the twin photons generated by parametric down conversion is obtained in agreement with previous treatments, but with a more intuitive interpretation.
