TL;DR
This paper investigates gas-like alpha cluster states around an oxygen-16 core in magnesium-24 using a microscopic model with Monte Carlo techniques, revealing large monopole transition strengths indicative of such states.
Contribution
It introduces a Monte Carlo approach to describe gas-like alpha cluster states within the THSR wave function framework, accounting for couplings to low-lying cluster states.
Findings
Identification of gas-like alpha cluster states near the 2-alpha threshold in $^{24}$Mg.
Large isoscalar monopole transition strength from ground to gas-like states.
Gas-like states appear slightly below the 2-alpha threshold.
Abstract
We have studied gas-like states of clusters around an O core in Mg based on a microscopic -cluster model. This study was performed by introducing a Monte Carlo technique for the description of the THSR (Tohsaki Horiuchi Schuck R\"{o}pke) wave function, and the coupling effect to other low-lying cluster states was taken into account. A large isoscalar monopole () transition strength from the ground to the gas-like state is discussed. The gas-like state of two clusters in Mg around the O core appears slightly below the 2-threshold e
