TL;DR
This paper reports the fabrication of a large-mode-area single-mode optical fiber using MCVD, employing a leaky mode filtering design to discriminate modes and achieve a Gaussian-like mode with a 22-μm MFD after 3 meters.
Contribution
It introduces a novel large-mode-area fiber design with leaky mode filtering fabricated by MCVD, demonstrating effective mode discrimination and propagation characteristics.
Findings
Achieved a 25-μm core diameter with single-mode operation.
Observed a Gaussian-like mode with 22-μm MFD after 3 meters.
Modeling results agree with experimental observations.
Abstract
A large mode area single-mode optical fibre based on leaky mode filtering was prepared by MCVD. The cladding structure discriminates the fundamental mode from the higher order ones. A preliminary version has 25-m core diameter and 0.11 numerical aperture. A Gaussian-like mode with 22-m MFD is observed after 3-m propagation, in agreement with modeling.
