Almost Birkhoff Theorem in General Relativity
Rituparno Goswami, George F R Ellis

TL;DR
This paper extends Birkhoff's theorem in general relativity to nearly symmetric vacuum spacetimes, demonstrating that the uniqueness of spherical solutions persists under small perturbations.
Contribution
It generalizes Birkhoff's theorem to perturbed LRS-II vacuum spacetimes, showing the robustness of spherical solutions in Einstein's equations.
Findings
Rigidity of spherical vacuum solutions persists under perturbations
Extension of Birkhoff's theorem to almost symmetric spacetimes
Perturbed solutions remain close to exact spherical solutions
Abstract
We extend Birkhoff's theorem for almost LRS-II vacuum spacetimes to show that the rigidity of spherical vacuum solutions of Einstein's field equations continues even in the perturbed scenario.
