Modelling DNA Response to THz Radiation
Eric S. Swanson

TL;DR
This paper investigates how DNA responds to terahertz radiation using a simple model, confirming some destabilizing effects but also highlighting conditions where these effects are mitigated, with thermal influences playing a significant role.
Contribution
It introduces a simplified pair bond model to study DNA's collective response to THz fields and explores parameter dependencies and thermal effects on breather modes.
Findings
Destabilizing DNA breather modes are confirmed under certain conditions.
Breather modes are eliminated under realistic physical parameters.
Thermal effects significantly influence DNA's response to THz radiation.
Abstract
Collective response of DNA to THz electric fields is studied in a simple pair bond model. We confirm, with some caveats, a previous observation of destabilising DNA breather modes and explore the parameter-dependence of these modes. It is shown that breather modes are eliminated under reasonable physical conditions and that thermal effects are significant.
