Contribution
It introduces a new formalism for calculating energy eigenstates in lead salt quantum wires using the multiple-band envelope-function approximation.
Findings
Derived electron energy dispersion relations for quantum wire subbands.
Identified quantization effects on charge carriers in lead salt cylindrical wires.
Provided a framework for future experimental and theoretical studies.
Abstract
A formalism for determining energy eigenstates of cylindrical lead salt quantum wires in the multiple-band envelope-function approximation is developed. Electron energy dispersion for quantum wire subbands within the conduction and valence bands is found.
