Jean-No\"el Roux (NAVIER), Ga\"el Combe (3S-R)

TL;DR
This paper reviews static granular packings, discussing how to compute force variations and displacements without inertia, aiding the numerical simulation of granular assemblies.
Contribution
It introduces methods for quasi-static simulation of granular assemblies, focusing on force and displacement calculations without dynamic effects.
Findings
Defines properties of static granular packings
Explains computation of force variations
Details methods for displacement analysis
Abstract
Useful definitions and properties pertaining to static granular packings, in which a contact network is able to support externally applied forces and maintain equilibrium for varying loads, are reviewed and discussed. It is explained how one may then compute force variations and displacements without introducing inertia or any time-dependent forces.
