Fundamental String (Membrane) Orbiting D5(M5)-branes
Rashmi R. Nayak, Pratap K. Swain

TL;DR
This paper investigates the dynamics of fundamental strings and M2-branes near D5 and M5-branes, revealing conditions for metastable orbits and extending the analysis to M-theory configurations.
Contribution
It introduces specific conditions under which fundamental strings and M2-branes form metastable orbits near D5 and M5-branes, providing new insights into brane dynamics.
Findings
F-strings can have metastable orbits at finite distances from D5-branes.
Metastable orbits depend on angular momentum proportional to string length and coupling.
The study extends to M2-branes in M5-brane backgrounds.
Abstract
We study fundamental string (F-string) dynamics near D5-brane in some limits. We find that when the angular momentum of the probe is proportional to string length (l_s) and square root of string coupling constant {g_s}, the F-string lies in its metastable orbit at a finite distance from D5-branes. We further study the metastable orbits of a M2-brane in M5-brane background.
