Search for cyclotron absorptions from magnetars in the quiescence with XMM-Newton
Mykola Malygin, Dmytro Iakubovskyi

TL;DR
This study analyzed XMM-Newton spectra of magnetar candidates during quiescence to detect cyclotron absorption features, but found no significant lines, suggesting potential smoothing mechanisms affecting the features.
Contribution
First detailed search for cyclotron absorption lines in quiescent magnetars using XMM-Newton data, reporting a null result.
Findings
No significant absorption lines detected
Possible smoothing mechanisms obscure features
Results constrain models of magnetar atmospheres
Abstract
In this work, we perform the detailed analysis of absorption features in spectra of magnetar candidates observed by XMM-Newton satellite. No significant line-like feature has been found. This negative result may indicate the possible presence of smoothing out the absorption features mechanisms.
