The BABAR Collaboration, P. del Amo Sanchez, et al

TL;DR
This paper reports the first observation of new excited $D$ meson states, including radial and orbital excitations, in inclusive $e^+e^-$ collisions at 10.58 GeV using the BABAR detector.
Contribution
It presents the first evidence for radial and orbital excitations of $D$ mesons in $e^+e^-$ collisions near 10.58 GeV.
Findings
Candidates for radial excitations of $D^0$, $D^{*0}$, and $D^{*+}$ observed.
Candidates for L=2 excited states of $D^0$ and $D^+$ observed.
First-time observation of these excited states in this energy regime.
Abstract
We present a study of the , , and systems in inclusive interactions in a search for new excited meson states. We use a dataset, consisting of 454 fb, collected at center-of-mass energies near 10.58 GeV by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy collider. We observe, for the first time, candidates for the radial excitations of the , , and , as well as the L=2 excited states of the and , where is the orbital angular momentum of the quarks.
