Dan Edidin, Damiano Fulghesu

TL;DR
This paper studies the moduli stack of stable curves with a fixed dual graph, providing an explicit desingularization of its closure and analyzing a specific substack with many nodes.
Contribution
It introduces an explicit desingularization of the closure of the moduli stack of curves with a fixed dual graph, advancing understanding of its geometric structure.
Findings
Explicit desingularization of the closure in the moduli stack
Analysis of the substack with at least 3g-4 nodes
Structural insights into the moduli of stable curves
Abstract
We consider the stack of stable curves of genus g with a given dual graph and we give an explicit desingularization of its closure in the moduli stack of stable curves. We study in particular the one-dimensional substack of curves with at least 3g-4 nodes.
