Ahmed Ali, Fernando Barreiro, Theodota Lagouri

TL;DR
This paper explores the potential to measure the CKM matrix element |V_{ts}| at the LHC by analyzing top quark decays, jet profiles, and employing machine learning techniques to distinguish signal from background.
Contribution
It introduces a novel method combining jet profile analysis and boosted decision trees to improve |V_{ts}| measurement prospects at the LHC.
Findings
Achieves 10% signal efficiency with 1000-fold background rejection at 14 TeV.
Demonstrates feasibility with 10 fb^{-1} luminosity.
Uses Monte Carlo simulations to estimate background rejection and signal efficiency.
Abstract
We study the prospects of measuring the CKM matrix element at the LHC with the top quarks produced in the processes and , and the subsequent decays and . We insist on tagging the leptonically, (), and analyse the anticipated jet profiles in the signal process and the dominant background from the decay . To that end, we analyse the ( and ) distributions in the - and -quark jets concentrating on the energy and transverse momentum distributions of these particles. The s emanating from the branch have displaced decay vertexes from the interaction point due to the weak decays and the -quark jets are rich in charged leptons. Hence, the absence of secondary…
