TL;DR
This paper shows how LO-phonon assisted relaxation significantly lowers the threshold for polariton lasing in microcavities by enhancing relaxation rates when the energy gap matches one LO-phonon energy.
Contribution
It provides experimental evidence of LO-phonon assisted relaxation reducing lasing threshold and improving polariton relaxation in strongly coupled microcavities.
Findings
Ten-fold increase in relaxation rate in the linear regime
Two-fold reduction in lasing threshold
Enhanced polariton relaxation when energy gap matches LO-phonon energy
Abstract
We demonstrate the role of LO-phonon assisted polariton relaxation in reducing the stimulation threshold in strongly coupled microcavities. When the energy of the relaxation bottleneck is one LO-phonon above the ground polariton state, we observe a ten-fold improvement of the polariton relaxation rate in the linear regime, and a two-fold reduction of the threshold to the non-linear polariton lasing regime.
