TL;DR
This paper studies semitransparent pistons with extra dimensions, demonstrating they are always attracted to the nearest wall regardless of geometric or topological details, and computes the zeta regularized determinant for this setup.
Contribution
It provides a general proof of the attractive force of semitransparent pistons to the closest wall and calculates the associated zeta regularized determinant.
Findings
Pistons are always attracted to the nearest wall.
The attraction is independent of extra-dimensional geometry and topology.
The zeta regularized determinant for the configuration is explicitly evaluated.
Abstract
We consider semitransparent pistons in the presence of extra dimensions. It is shown that the piston is always attracted to the closest wall irrespective of details of the geometry and topology of the extra dimensions and of the cross section of the piston. Furthermore, we evaluate the zeta regularized determinant for this configuration.
